Get involved

As a completely volunteer-run project, We Vote depends on people like you to make things happen. And because we know that everyone's interests, skills, and time commitments vary, we try to provide many ways for you to join us. To receive updates about the project and information about the latest volunteer opportunities, please complete our volunteer interest form or check our event calendar for specific dates and times.

We organize our efforts around four areas:

Voters Guide

  • What is it? A non-partisan resource that provides everything a voter needs to know for election day, including responses from the candidates to key questions, background on the election, tips for what to do at the polls, and even an activity for kids.
  • How can you help? You can assist in creating and editing the Guide itself, or join us to distribute the Guide throughout Grand Rapids once it is published this March. We'd also welcome donations to cover the cost of printing. Contact us to get involved or download the Voter Guide (PDF) now.

Candidate Forum

  • What is it? A non-partisan community event to be held on April 16 in which all the school board candidates are present to answer a series of questions, including some from the audience.
  • How can you help? You can join us in event planning for the day (everything from securing a location to preparing candidate questions), or help the day of the Forum, when many volunteers are needed to greet attendees, hand out materials, collect questions from the audience, and so on. Contact us if you're interested.

Neighborhood Outreach

  • What is it? A series of non-partisan door-to-door visits in local neighborhoods, where we'll share resources such as the Voters Guide, encourage our neighbors to vote, and answer questions about what to expect on election day.
  • How can you help? You can join us by going door to door with one of our organized groups -- dates are posted on our event calendar, and training will be provided!

Communications

  • What is it? A coordinated, non-partisan communications effort will be completed and include a public service announcement, media outreach (radio, TV, newspapers), and online networking (blogs, e-newsletters/e-alerts, Twitter, Facebook).
  • How can you help? Lots of ways! If you have a blog, consider posting about the school board election, and send us the link so we can share with others. If you're on Twitter, post regular reminders of the upcoming election. If you'd like to be part of our communications planning group, contact us.
